Bees for Development

Turkey Safari:  24 July - 5 August 2010

This extra special BfD Beekeepers' Safari takes place every other year.

In the Caucasus Region of north-east Turkey, a remarkable project has been taking place.  It has been planned to conserve precious stocks of Caucasian honey bees to provide people in this remote corner of Turkey with a reliable livelihood, and to support beekeeping throughout Turkey by provision of queen bees.  These Caucasian bees are gentle and efficient honey producers, and this Safari provides a unique opportunity to view this excellent rural development project.

Participants will experience local culture, foods, and music, as well as the amazing natural wonders of the areas visited.

The Safari is organised in co-operation with Biyotematur, experienced in organising nature tours.  Biyotematur are a division of the non-profit making TEMA Foundation, established to promote conservation and sustainable development within Turkey.
